Strokes – Causes, Symptoms And Prevention

Stroke is one of the most spreading diseases in India. Strokes occur when there is a blockage in the blood flowing to the brain. It prevents the brain tissue from getting oxygen flow and nutrients. It leads to the death of the brain cells within a minute. Stoke is a medical emergency that leads to the death of people within a few minutes. The strokes affected people need to admitted to the hospital immediately.

The strokes are of three types: Ischemic stroke, Hemorrhagic stroke, Transient ischemic attack (TIA)

Ischemic stroke:

Nearly 87% of the people get affected by the Ischemic stroke. This stroke occurs when the blood flowing to your brain gets clotted.

Hemorrhagic stroke:

This Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when there is a blood leak in the surrounding cells.

Transient ischemic attack (TIA):

TIA (transient ischemic attack) is also known as “mini-stroke”. TIA causes a temporary blockage in the blood flow to your brain. These symptoms are for just a few minutes or may go far 24 hours.

Causes of Stroke:

The blockage or the blood clot in the brain is the most common cause of a stroke. If the blood clot happens it causes a lack of supply of oxygen and nutrients to the brain. As a result within a few minutes, the cells in the part of the brain will die. The part of the body stops working because the brain controls all parts of your body.

Risk factors are:

  • heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • high cholesterol
  • diabetes
  • smoking

Strokes Symptoms:

  • Feel weakness in the face, arm, leg
  • Confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Severe headache
  • trouble walking
  • loss of balance or coordination


  • Keep your  blood pressure stable
  • Lose weight
  • Exercise regularly
  • If you are smoking, avoid smoking
  • If you consuming alcohol, cut down on it
